Ponda: In a tragic incident of human-wildlife conflict, Bethora village on Wednesday evening reported a fatal bison attack.Dinesh Gaude (48), a home guard attached to Ponda police station, died after he was attacked by a bison while visiting a friend. The incident occurred around 6.30pm at Kadnevhal junction in Bethora.This is the second casualty in Bethora within a year-and-a-half.According to DySP Shivram Vaingankar, Gaude had parked his motorcycle by the roadside and was walking towards his friend’s house when the animal charged from behind. “The bison attacked him suddenly, and one of its horns pierced his lower body. He succumbed to internal bleeding while undergoing treatment at the Ponda sub-district hospital,” Vaingankar said.Gaude, a resident of Udiwada, Usgao, is survived by his wife and two children.On Oct 13, 2024, 64-year-old Mangala Gaude of Bondbag, Ponda, had died after suffering grievous injuries in a similar attack. She was gored by a bison while attempting to drive animals away from her plantation a day earlier, police records stated.
