Chennai: Ponneri police launched a search for a youth who attempted to sexually assault a 37-year-old woman after offering her a lift on his two-wheeler near Ponneri in Tiruvallur district on Friday. Police said the woman, of Amoor village near Ponneri, worked at a textile factory in Madhavaram. As there was no direct bus facility to her village, she regularly walked 3km after work to reach home. She was reportedly returning home on Friday when a youth riding a two-wheeler offered to drop her home. After travelling some distance, the accused stopped the vehicle in a secluded area and attempted to sexually assault her at knife-point. He fled when the woman raised an alarm. Police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to find the accused.
