Bhilwara hosp sets up special care unit for high-risk pregnancies

Bhilwara: Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Bhilwara has started an eight-bed special care unit for high-risk pregnancies to strengthen maternal healthcare, following the recent deaths of five women during childbirth.The unit, launched Monday at the direction of Bhilwara district collector Jasmeet Singh Sandhu, will provide specialised care for women with critical and complicated pregnancies. Hospital authorities said patients requiring close monitoring will undergo necessary diagnostic tests and remain under the supervision of specialist doctors to ensure timely treatment.Hospital PMO Dr Arun Gaur said the facility is part of efforts to improve maternity services. He said the hospital has ensured round-the-clock availability of senior gynaecology and obstetrics specialists to handle emergency and complicated cases. Operation theatre facilities have also been expanded and additional resources provided to improve the quality and safety of maternity care.According to doctors, high-risk pregnancies include cases involving anaemia, high blood pressure, diabetes, infections, repeated miscarriages, pregnancy at a young age, previous caesarean delivery, excessive bleeding during an earlier delivery, thyroid disorders, heart disease, kidney disease, Rh-negative pregnancy and breech presentation.The hospital said facilities for tests, including blood pressure, CBC, blood sugar, ECG, SGOT-SGPT, urea, creatinine, urine albumin and TSH are available round the clock.
