Gorakhpur: Once regarded most backward part of Gorakhpur because of poor road connectivity, the district’s southern belt is witnessing a major infrastructure transformation under Yogi Adityanath govt. Public Works Department is carrying out widening and strengthening works on nine key roads spanning more than 118 km at a cost exceeding Rs 445 crore.The road projects are aimed at improving connectivity between rural areas and major highways, including the Gorakhpur-Varanasi four-lane corridor and the Gorakhpur Link Expressway. Officials said the upgraded network is expected to make travel easier for residents, farmers, students and traders, while boosting access to healthcare and education facilities.District magistrate Deepak Meena said Gorakhpur has made significant progress in road infrastructure development in line with the chief minister’s vision. He directed officials to ensure that all ongoing projects are completed within the stipulated timeline while maintaining quality standards.The development follows the inauguration of the Dhuriyapar-Uruwa-Shahpur-Belghat road widening project worth over Rs 57 crore by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Jun 13.Among the major ongoing projects are the Gorakhpur-Khajni-Sikriganj road, Mahdeva-Dudhra-Sopra road, Bhiti-Bansgaon-Gola road and Kaudiram-Jagdishpur-Dihwa-Harpur Sugar Mill road. Several projects have already achieved substantial physical progress and are expected to be completed between the coming months and Mar 2027.
