Behala residents clash with delivery hub staff, 3 injured

Kolkata: A clash broke out in Behala on Saturday evening between local residents and workers of a quick-commerce delivery hub, which reportedly left three persons injured.Residents said delivery vehicles were blocking a road and causing disturbance. Animesh Jana, who serves in the Indian Armed Forces, alleged that delivery workers attacked him and his family with bamboo sticks and punches after he objected to the blockade. He said he sustained injuries and had to be treated at a govt hospital. The delivery company, however, gave a counter-complaint. Its representative, Johar Das, alleged that residents entered the warehouse without permission, recorded videos, assaulted two female employees, and threatened other staff members.Parnashree cops have registered two separate cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges of trespass, causing hurt, and criminal intimidation. Police are checking CCTV footage and questioning witnesses. No arrest has been made yet.The incident has highlighted the rising tension between residents and personnel of quick-commerce delivery hubs operating inside residential areas.“The incident might not be an isolated case. It highlights an urban conflict between local residents, who claim that the high-volume traffic, parked two-wheelers, and rowdy behavior at online delivery hubs disrupt their peaceful lives, and quick-commerce companies, whose delivery agents operate under tight deadlines,” said political commentator Sayoni Chowdhury.
