Bathinda: Hours before the Punjab governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, granted his assent to the ‘Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Bill’, an incident of sacrilege was reported from Bathinda on the intervening night of April 18 and 19.A woman allegedly entered a house in the Gopal Nagar locality of Bathinda by scaling the boundary wall and tore photos of deities inside the house. She reportedly removed the pictures and threw them out of the house. It was stated that the woman was mentally unstable.Narinder Singh, SP (City), Bathinda, said police received information that a woman scaled the outer wall to enter the ground-floor courtyard of a house in Gopal Nagar with the intent to steal, but she failed to proceed beyond the courtyard.She removed some photos of deities from the wall and threw these out, even as the members of the family woke up, said the SP.The woman, identified as Sazia, wife of Amarjit Singh, has been arrested, and a case under charges of house trespass and under Section 299 of the BNS (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) has been registered against her at Bathinda Canal Colony police station, said the police.It is said she is mentally unstable, but that will be verified, the police added.MSID:: 130371482 413 |
