Bandra Police Arrest SoBo Bizman’s Son After Fatal SUV Crash Kills Delivery Rider

Mumbai: A 20-year-old Swiggy delivery rider died after a high-end SUV allegedly hit his motorcycle from behind while overtaking on Coastal Highway at Sea Link Reclamation in Bandra West late on Friday. The Bandra police arrested Yuvraj Baheti (28), the alleged driver of the black SUV bearing a registration number from Rajasthan, and he was produced before a Bandra court on Saturday and was later granted bail. The SUV, allegedly driven by the son of a Mahalaxmi businessman who is in the import-export business, was valued at around Rs 2.5 crore and was impounded. Police alerted the deceased’s family members based on the Aadhaar card details found in his pocket.The delivery rider, Shubham Prajapati, succumbed to severe head injuries two hours after he was rushed to Bhabha Hospital, where he died at 12.12 am on Sept 5. He had been travelling to deliver a parcel. “In this case, we did not release the accused motorist after serving notice. He was arrested and produced before the court for death due to negligence, rash and negligent driving. Baheti was not drunk at the time of the incident. He was heading to his home at Mahalaxmi from Khar when he hit the delivery rider,” said a police officer of the Bandra police station.A police constable, Vinayak Jaikar, said the control room reported the crash at 10.38 pm. “The patrolling team found Prajapati unconscious and bleeding from the head, with his grey motorcycle nearby. The SUV was standing about 100 feet away. Baheti told a traffic officer that his vehicle had hit the motorcyclist travelling ahead of him. He did not flee from the spot,” said Jaikar in the FIR.Jaikar said following the information they visited the scene and found a person lying unconscious on the WEH, on the road going in the west direction, from south to north. He had severe bleeding from his head. “With the help of the Traffic Department personnel present with me, we sent the said injured person to hospital.Baheti was booked under the BNS and MV Act sections for negligent, careless and reckless overtaking which caused the collision.
