Gurgaon: MCG has set July 31, 2027, as the fresh deadline for clearing waste from Bandhwari landfill, admitting that 14.8 lakh metric tonnes (MT) remained unprocessed as of Oct 31, 2026.In an affidavit submitted before National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday, the civic body outlined a two-stage remediation plan. Under existing agreements, two agencies are expected to process a cumulative 16.8 lakh MT of waste by Feb-end 2027. However, around 8.5 lakh MT is expected to remain at the site even after this exercise, requiring a fresh round of processing.MCG has sought administrative approval from Haryana govt for processing the remaining waste under a separate arrangement. It has proposed starting the work on March 1, 2027, and completing it by July 31.The proposal was sent to the state govt on Oct 22, with approval expected by Dec 5. MCG plans to invite tenders on Dec 10, complete their technical and financial evaluation by Dec 31, and seek rate approval on Jan 5. The approval is expected by Jan 31, followed by the issuance of a letter of acceptance (LOA) on Feb 2. The selected agency will have to submit a bank guarantee by Feb 12, with the agreement scheduled to be signed by Feb 20.A senior MCG official said the new deadline would depend on approvals from the urban local bodies (ULB) department and weather conditions. “Monsoon generally hampers waste processing work at the landfill,” the official said.According to the affidavit, MCG initially engaged Daya Charan and Company and MKG Green Energy Pvt Ltd to process 14 lakh MT of legacy waste. An additional 2.8 lakh MT was later allocated following a high-powered works committee decision, taking their combined target to 16.8 lakh MT.By Oct 31, the agencies had processed 7.2 lakh MT against a cumulative target of 7.5 lakh MT, which MCG described as around 97% achievement. However, they missed their monthly targets in April, June and Aug 2026, primarily due to the monsoon. Their revised schedule targets completion of the entire 16.8 lakh MT by Feb 2027.MCG also told the tribunal that fresh waste dumping at Bandhwari would stop once an alternative processing facility becomes operational.
