JAISALMER: A member of the Baba Ramdev Samadhi Committee, Anand Singh Tanwar, began a one-day symbolic hunger strike at Ramsarovar Ghat in Ramdevra on Monday, demanding the immediate removal of more than two dozen boats and other encroachments from the sacred pond.Tanwar staged the protest in front of the Bhojanshala at Ramsarovar Ghat, alleging that boats, stands installed on the ghats and other encroachments were affecting the sanctity of the religious site and causing inconvenience to devotees.Ramdevra in Jaisalmer district attracts lakhs of devotees every year, who visit the Samadhi of Baba Ramdevji. Ramsarovar pond holds major religious significance, with devotees collecting its holy water as charanamrit and taking ritual baths.Tanwar said more than two dozen boats had been kept in Ramsarovar for a long time, while stands and other encroachments had occupied parts of the ghats. He demanded that all such encroachments be removed immediately, citing the pond’s religious importance and the convenience and safety of pilgrims.He said a memorandum was submitted to the Rajasthan chief minister on August 10, 2026, seeking effective administrative action. The memorandum also warned that a public movement would be launched if action was not taken.However, saying that no effective action had been taken so far, Tanwar said he was compelled to begin the symbolic hunger strike.He warned that if the administration failed to act on the demands, the agitation would be intensified in a different form from Tuesday, with the support of his supporters.Tanwar demanded the immediate removal of all boats, stands installed on the ghats and other encroachments from Ramsarovar. He also sought the restoration of the ghats and proper arrangements to make them safe and convenient for devotees.He further urged the administration to ensure adequate security at the protest site to prevent any untoward incident or law-and-order problem and allow the agitation to continue peacefully.
