Varanasi: An assistant teacher at Edilpur Primary School in Azamgarh’s Atraulia area was suspended for negligence after a Class III student was left sleeping in a classroom. The teacher locked the room and went home.After the matter came to light, the BSA issued a notice to the headmaster seeking clarification. Following a BEO inquiry, assistant teacher Shrikant Singh was found guilty and suspended.District Basic Education officer Rajeev Pathak said the administration has issued guidelines to officials to prevent recurrence of such incidents.According to reports, the student, a resident of Dadar village in Atraulia, fell asleep in the classroom. After school hours, teachers and staff locked all rooms without checking and left for home. When the boy did not return for a long time, his mother contacted other students to trace him, but found nothing. She then began searching and reached the school around 4 pm. She discovered he was locked inside a classroom after hearing his cries of hunger, thirst and fear.She then alerted the village head, after which the school key was arranged to open the classroom and rescue the boy.
