Guwahati: Buoyed by the response to the CM Fifa Fan Parks in Guwahati and Dibrugrah, the Assam govt is set to expand the initiative to other parts of the state.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said similar football fan parks will be set up in Jorhat and Silchar to take the football fever beyond Guwahati and Dibrugarh.The announcement comes as large crowds have been gathering at the Guwahati Fan Park to watch live screenings of Fifa Club World Cup matches in a stadium-like atmosphere. The state govt plans to replicate the format in Upper Assam and the Barak Valley.“We are running fan parks in Guwahati and Dibrugarh. From tomorrow, Jorhat will be added and we will try to have another fan park in Silchar, so that people can witness the quarter-final, semi-final and final matches,” Sarma said.Officials from the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) said the initiative is aimed at promoting a stronger sporting culture among youth and positioning Assam as a sports tourism destination. By creating dedicated public spaces for fans to watch global sporting events together, the govt hopes to encourage greater community participation and foster interest in international sports.The proposed fan parks in Jorhat and Silchar are expected to offer live match screenings along with entertainment and food stalls.
