Dibrugarh: A cadre of the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) faction was arrested during a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Tirap police in the Hydel area of Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on Thursday.The operation was launched by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles in coordination with Tirap police on the basis of specific intelligence inputs.The apprehended individual has been identified as self-styled sergeant Langsom Losu alias Gangsa, 32. Security agencies confirmed his association with the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) faction.During the operation, security personnel recovered one 7.65 mm pistol along with a magazine, 10 rounds of 7.65 mm live ammunition and a bag from his possession. Langsom Losu, along with the seized items has been handed over to Tirap police for further investigation and legal action.NSCN-K (Ang Mai) is a Myanmar-based faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland. Formed in 2023 following a split within the Yung Aung faction, the group is led by chairman Ang Mai and maintains significant influence in the Naga self-administered zone of Myanmar and along the India-Myanmar border regions. The outfit has been a vocal opponent of the Indian govt’s decision to construct border fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border.Tirap district, which shares borders with Nagaland and Myanmar, has historically seen insurgent activity and falls within the operational area of the Assam Rifles. The Khonsa Battalion conducts regular operations in the district in coordination with state police to check the activities of armed groups in the region.Officials said investigation into the background and activities of Langsom Losu is underway and that joint operations would continue as part of sustained efforts to maintain law and order in the area.
