Guwahati: A case has been registered at Pan Bazar Police Station after a fatal road accident involving an Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC)-operated electric bus killed two youths on MG Road on Saturday.The deceased were identified as Akash Boro (19) and Jyotirmoy Das (20), both residents of Guwahati. Poice officers said they were travelling on a two-wheeler from Jalukbari towards Pan Bazar when the electric bus allegedly hit them from behind on MG Road. One of them died on spot, while the other died during treatment in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).An FIR was lodged by Akash Boro’s father. Based on the complaint and the preliminary findings of the investigation, Pan Bazar police registered a case under Sections 106(1), 125(b), and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The bus driver, identified as Nabin Deka (40), was arrested and produced before a local court.Investigators are examining factors including the vehicle’s speed, road conditions and possible negligence. In a separate incident in Dispur, a speeding two-wheeler collided with a Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) road-sweeping vehicle on the Rukminigaon flyover. “The accident happened in Rukminigaon flyover, where the bike collided with the GMC vehicle, which was sweeping the road at the moment,” a traffic police officer from Dispur PS said.The deceased was identified as Divyangshu Agarwal and the body was taken to GMCH for post mortem examination. Police are reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage.
