Guwahati: Assam Police’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) busted a job scam targeting water resources department aspirants and arrested seven people over a span of one month.The arrested persons have been identified as Ranjan Pegu, Jakaria Ahmed, Abu Hanif Choudhury, Shunti Das, Sankar Kumar Bhowmick, Rina Brahma and Gunamoni Baishya.In a statement, the CID said the “Accused persons were operating as part of an organised racket and allegedly cheated job-seeking youths of substantial sums of money, ranging from thousands to lakhs of rupees, by issuing forged appointment letters.”“They used fabricated govt seals and false recruitment notices under the water resources department,” it said.The arrests followed a series of operations over the past month. “The most recent arrest was that of Gunamoni Baishya, who was apprehended on Saturday from Nalbari district,” the CID added.A case has been registered at the CID police station under sections of the BNS, 2023, for criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery.The CID said the investigation is ongoing and urged people to verify recruitment notices through official channels and not pay money for govt jobs.
