Kolkata: The state govt has engaged RITES to conduct a feasibility survey for setting up the proposed aerial metro alignment connecting Asansol and Durgapur. The plan is a part of developing Asansol as a smart city.Urban development & municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul on Saturday held an administrative review meeting with Asansol Durgapur Development Authority to take stock of the smart city proposals. “We have engaged RITES to conduct a feasibility survey for the aerial metro between Asansol and Durgapur. We will start work once we get the feasibility study,” Paul said.Officials said the proposed metro system is planned to improve connectivity between the busy industrial and commercial zones of the region. “The metro has been planned to strengthen last-mile connectivity and decongesting road traffic along the industrial corridor of the region,” said a govt official.Paul also said that RITES is also conducting a feasibility survey for a proposed bridge over Damodar river. “Much of the survey work has already been done as a detailed project report for the bridge will now be prepared,”the minister said. Paul added that plans were also on to develop a logistics hub.
