Chandigarh: Army chief General Dhiraj Seth met Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday for discussions on national security, civil-military coordination and strengthening the state’s support for serving personnel, veterans and their families.Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh, Army Commander, Western Command, and senior Army and state govt officials attended the meeting — the first between Saini and Gen Seth since the latter assumed charge as Army chief.The discussions covered internal security, operational preparedness, disaster response and relief, employment and skill development opportunities for Agniveers, youth empowerment, housing for personnel and veterans, and initiatives linked to Atmanirbharta. The two sides also reviewed mechanisms for coordinated response to natural disasters to minimise loss of life and property.Saini said Haryana had a deep and enduring bond with the armed forces, with a large number of its youth serving in uniform and military service running through thousands of families. He said the state govt would continue to support serving personnel, ex-servicemen and their dependants through welfare and administrative measures.The meeting also highlighted the contribution of Haryana sportspersons serving in the Army, whose performances at national and international events have brought recognition to both the state and the force.Gen Seth thanked the Haryana govt for its support to veterans and their families and discussed avenues for post-retirement rehabilitation, settlement and employment. He assured the CM of the Army’s continued commitment to national security, disaster response and nation-building.
