Varanasi: An arms smuggler was arrested following police encounter in Mirzapur. In another encounter in Ghazipur, Nanadganj police arrested a thief.Mirzapur’s ASP (city) Nitesh Singh said Kachhwan police personnel were patrolling at night when they were alerted about movement of notorious arms smuggler moving on Bhadohi road via Bhatoli. Police cordoned off Kewtaveer area and started intensive vehicle checking. In the meantime twopersons were spotted approaching on a motorcycle.When they policemen signalled them to stop, they opened fire and tried to escape and in retaliatory firing by police, one of them suffered bullet injury in the leg and fell on the road while his accomplice managed to flee. The injured criminal, Deveshwar Shukla of Padri, was arrested. After recovering a pistol, two country-made firearms and cartridges, police rushed him to hospital.In Ghazipur, Nandganj police personnel led by inspector Atul Kumar Mishra arrested a rewarded thief Monu Yadav following exchange of fire on Nandganj link road. Yadav suffered bullet injury in leg and was rushed to hospital by police after recovering a country-made pistol and cartridges from him.
