Hyderabad: A 27-year-old architect was found dead at her matrimonial home in Tolichowki on Tuesday night, with police registering a dowry death case against her husband and in-laws following allegations of dowry-related harassment made by her family. The deceased, Samiha Majahid, had married Muzzafaruddin, a software professional, in June 2025. She was working as an architect from home and was living with her husband and his family in SA Colony, Tolichowki.According to police, Muzzafaruddin left for work around 6 pm on Tuesday. Samiha later went into her room and locked it from inside. Around 8.30 pm, her mother-in-law knocked on the door to call her for dinner but received no response. Family members repeatedly tried to contact her and informed her husband, who also called her several times. Her parents were alerted as well, but she did not respond to their calls either. As efforts to contact her failed, Muzzafaruddin returned home and the family broke open the door, finding her dead inside.Based on a complaint lodged by her father Atharuddin, police registered a case under section 80 (dowry death) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the husband and his family. The complainant alleged that Samiha had been subjected to harassment by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands and was also being forced to perform household chores.Police, however, said the allegations are being verified as part of the investigation. “The family had never approached us earlier with any complaint. There were no previous domestic violence or other complaints on record. This is the first complaint received in the matter,” Tolichowki Inspector L Ramesh Naik told TOI.Police said Samiha had recently stayed with her parents for three days due to health issues before returning to her matrimonial home on Aug 1.
