Chennai: Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) committee on Sunday opened applications for engineering admissions counselling. Class XII students can apply for counselling till June 2.According to the admissions schedule, the engineering rank list will be released on June 29. Online engineering counselling is likely to be conducted in July. TNEA said the counselling dates will be updated after getting approval from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Candidates can apply for the counselling on TNEA’s official website, www.tneaonline.org. Candidates will be assigned a random number on June 5, and this number will be used to break the tie in the ranking. Candidates’ certificates will be verified from June 8 to 20. State board Class XII exam results are scheduled to be released on May 8, while the CBSE is planning to release Class XII exam results in the third week of May. Only ISC results were declared so far. “Last five years’ cut-off marks for colleges and courses, details of 110 TNEA facilitation centres (TFCs) and the certificates required for special quota admissions have been uploaded on the website,” a release from the Directorate of Technical Education said. Candidates can approach TFCs and call toll-free number 1800-426-0110 to clarify doubts. They can also send queries by email to tneacare@gmail.com. In the previous year, 443 engineering colleges took part in the counselling, and 2,20,841 students enrolled in these colleges through counselling and management quota seats. More than two lakh students are expected to compete for 1.7 lakh seats available for govt quota this year. To give affiliation to engineering colleges, Anna University has directed all engineering faculty members to get the faculty identification number. Sources said the university may not conduct physical inspection of engineering colleges this year.
