Kolkata: Police have arrested an app-cab driver for allegedly threatening and robbing two passengers in east Kolkata’s Entally area after an argument over an unauthorised stop. The accused has been identified as Kuldeep Singh Yadav, a resident of Palmer Bazaar. Officers from Entally police station arrested him from the Palmer Bazaar area on Sunday.Police said the incident took place on Oct 7, when two passengers booked an app cab from Salt Lake to Park Street. Soon after the ride began, Yadav allegedly told them he would take a shortcut through Entally and stop near his home to pick up his lunchbox. One of the passengers objected, saying the driver could not make an unauthorised stop during the trip and that it would delay them. The argument soon escalated.Police said Yadav then called some of his friends from the neighbourhood to Palmer Bazaar. When they arrived, they allegedly surrounded the cab, threatened the passengers and snatched Rs 4,500 in cash from them before fleeing. The passengers first went to Topsia police station to file a complaint. Since the incident had taken place under Entally police station limits, Topsia police registered a zero FIR and transferred the case to Entally police.Investigators used the cab aggregator’s trip details to trace the vehicle. They also contacted the app-cab company to get the driver’s registered mobile number and other details.Police tracked Yadav’s mobile phone location and raided the Palmer Bazaar area on Saturday night. He was detained and later arrested on Sunday after questioning.Kolkata Police are now trying to identify and arrest the other people allegedly involved in the robbery. Investigators are also checking whether Yadav has a criminal record or was involved in similar incidents earlier.
