Gurgaon: Weeks before Shivani Chauhan (Sia) was knocked off her bike on Golf Course Road by a car driver chasing her — footage from her bike’s camera triggered furore and ensured the offender’s arrest — another camera in another vehicle captured a similar incident on the same road.Her case, however, saw no action for nearly a month. Police registered an FIR only on Tuesday, after a second complaint, and the accused is yet to be identified.On Aug 27, a 28-year-old woman travelling with her mother in a Maruti Swift was chased and rammed from the side by a Scorpio driver. He abused both women and smashed the car’s headlight with an iron rod near AIT Chowk. The entire incident was captured on her dashcam.The complainant, Khushboo Verma, who works with a private company in the city, has accused police of inaction. Khushboo told TOI on Wednesday that she was travelling with her 51-year-old mother, Pooja Verma, at around 10pm and had stopped at the signal on her way to a nearby fuel station.“The Mahindra Scorpio driver also stopped a little ahead of my car. When the signal turned green, I honked since he was not moving ahead. Initially he moved left and gave me space but suddenly banged into my car from the left. He then overtook my car, forcing me to stop, rolled down his window and started abusing us. And then in a fit of rage he took out a rod and smashed the headlight of my car before speeding away,” Khushboo said.“This happened right at the roundabout and there were several cars around us but not even one stopped to see what happened. We both were so scared to even step out of our vehicle, fearing he would harm us physically. The offending black Scorpio N bore a temporary registration number (T01250L04558),” she added.Khushboo immediately called the police control room, and a team reached the spot. “Police were not of much help. Even though I informed them that I had the dashcam footage of the assault, they did not even bother to view it and asked me to go to the Sector 56 police station and lodge a complaint.”The woman alleged that no action was taken despite her submitting the complaint the same night, followed by multiple visits to the police station. “I was told that the investigating officer Narender had gone home for Rakshabandhan. Later they said they could not trace the driver due to a temporary registration number. They closed that complaint without even informing me. Later on Sept 21, my mother filed a second complaint after which they lodged an FIR but are yet to identify the accused. There are CCTV cameras installed at the AIT chowk but still police could not trace him,” she added.The FIR was registered at Sector 56 police station under sections 125 (act endangering human life or personal safety), 281 (rash driving) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage to property) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).SHO of Sector 56 police station did not respond to a query seeking his response on the alleged delay in registering the FIR or on police inaction.On Sept 13, Shivan Chauhan was thrown off her superbike after a car driver cut across her path near the Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station on Golf Course Road. She narrowly escaped being run over as vehicles swept past her. The road rage was captured by a dashcam mounted on her Aprilia RS 457. The footage, which she shared on social media, led to the arrest of the accused and three of his accomplices. The driver has been booked on attempt to murder charges.
