Gurgaon: Days after a section of Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway caved in near Narsingpur following heavy rain, another road collapsed on Friday. A portion of Jharsa Road caved in on Friday morning, leaving a truck partially trapped and disrupting traffic for an hour.According to GMDA officials, the cave-in occurred when the loaded truck was passing over Jharsa Road. The team also excavated the damaged portion to ascertain the cause. Officials said the inspection did not reveal any leakage or any underground sewer line, water pipeline or electrical cables lying beneath the road.They added that continuous rainfall over the past few days may have weakened the sub-base of the road. The heavy movement of vehicles over the moisture-affected stretch is suspected to have triggered the collapse.“The most likely reason appears to be weakening of the road base due to recent rainfall and moisture ingress. The movement of a vehicle over the weakened stretch may have caused the surface to collapse. We have restored the road on an immediate basis, and traffic has been normalised. At present, there is no evidence to suggest that the incident was caused by any failure of the underground utilities,” a GMDA official said.The incident comes just days after a section of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway caved in near Narsingpur following heavy rain, another road collapsed on Friday, triggering concerns over the city’s road infrastructure during the monsoon.The cave-in happened at a site where GMDA was building a stormwater drainage culvert under NH-8 using trenchless technology. The collapse created a 10-foot-long and 8-foot-wide crater, prompting traffic police to barricade the affected stretch and divert vehicles. Tailbacks extended up to IFFCO Chowk, leaving commuters stranded for more than two hours.
