Ahmedabad: The Bhagat Ki Kothi – MGR Chennai Central – Bhagat Ki Kothi Superfast Express will now halt at Patan station, fulfilling a long-standing demand of passengers from Patan and surrounding areas. The additional stoppage began on Friday, and was inaugurated at a programme attended by Patan MP Bharatsinh Dabhi and Ahmedabad divisional railway manager Ved Prakash.The new halt will improve Patan’s rail connectivity to nearly 30 major cities across Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Railway officials said the service will strengthen connectivity with several important destinations across western and southern India.At present, 16 pairs of trains halt at Patan, including five pairs of passenger trains and mail/express services.Ved Prakash said development works worth around Rs 40 crore are underway at Patan station under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme. A new station building on both sides has been completed, while construction of a 12-metre-wide foot overbridge with lifts is in progress.The station’s architecture will incorporate elements inspired by the famous Rani Ki Vav, including its distinctive stone texture, officials said. The station is targeted for completion with modern passenger facilities before March 2027.
