Amul, Mother Dairy raise milk price by Rs 2 per litre

Mumbai: India’s largest dairy, Amul, announced an increase in prices of fresh pouch milk by Rs 2 per litre across the country effective May 14. The previous increase was implemented on May 1, 2025. Shortly thereafter, Mother Dairy also increased milk prices by Rs 2 per litre from May 14Both Amul Taaza and Amul cow milk (500 ml) will cost Rs 30 over Rs 29 earlier, while Amul Gold (also 500 ml) will rise from Rs 35 to Rs 36. However Amul buffalo milk will become costlier by Rs 2 per 500 ml, from Rs 37 to Rs 39.A press release issued by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), owner of Amul brand, said, “The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates to approximately 2.5-3.5% per litre which is lower than average food inflation. Since May 2025, Amul has made no increase in consumer price of milk. This hike is being done due to increase in overall cost of operation and production of milk.”Amul MD Jayen Mehta said, “There is a substantial increase in the cost of cattle feed, milk packaging film and fuel during the year. Our member unions have also increased farmers’ procurement price by Rs 30 per kg fat which is 3.7% increase over May 2025.”He TOI that the current price rise was not an offshoot of the Iran-US war or the LPG shortage. The company said, “Amul passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to milk producers. The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative prices and encourage them towards higher production.”
