Ahmedabad: An AMTS bus carrying medical students from the AMC-run VS Hospital to Shardaben Hospital mounted a road divider near Ratiyawadi on Friday morning after its steering suddenly locked. More than 40 medical students were on board when the incident occurred. While attempting to bring the vehicle under control, the driver steered it onto the divider. However, a major accident was averted. A penalty has been imposed on the private operator of the bus. The incident triggered a traffic jam on the road, following which the bus was removed from the spot.AMTS deputy transport manager R L Pandey stated that bus, operating on route 82, was ferrying students from VS Hospital to Shardaben Hospital on medical charter duty. The driver used his presence of mind to control the vehicle, thereby averting an accident, he added. Since the bus belonged to a private operator, a penalty of Rs 20,000 was imposed on the operator, Pandey added.
