Amritsar: The probe into the bid on actor Tiger Shroff’s life has put the spotlight on Amritsar as the possible pick-up point for the pistols and ammo used in the shooting. Two of the accused reportedly travelled to Amritsar around a fortnight before the attack to collect a pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition from a pre-arranged location using a method known as a “dead letter box” — where the ‘courier’ and the one who picks it up never meet. The weapon was then transported to Mumbai by two women. Delhi Police arrested four alleged suppliers on Oct 20, while three alleged gunmen were arrested separately.Border Range IG Gurpeet Singh Bhullar and Amritsar Police commissioner Harmanbir Singh Gill said they had no information about this specific development in the Shroff firing case. Sources, however, said the investigation is expected to focus on identifying the source of the weapons allegedly collected in Amritsar and determining whether the supply chain has links with cross-border smuggling networks. They said encrypted apps were used to share the location of the weapon drop with the person tasked with retrieving the consignment. The incident has brought renewed attention to cross-border smuggling of arms and drugs via drones. This month alone, Punjab Police intercepted three assault rifles, including an AK-47 and an M16, 87 pistols, and six hand grenades, besides dozens of rounds of ammunition.Amritsar Rural Police seized 22 smuggled pistols, two rifles and four grenades in multiple operations, while Amritsar Commissionerate Police seized 31 pistols. Amritsar counterintelligence seized 13 pistols, an assault rifle, two grenades and 25 bullets.
