Ahmedabad: It was a day to turn green for Amdavadis as citizens celebrated World Environment Day with activities ranging from plantation drives to quizzes and hands-on sessions centred on climate change and environmental protection.At the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), children explored the campus through nature trails, took part in birdwatching and photography contests. “A climate action pledge wall was set up for visitors, while a treasure hunt was organised to keep students engaged. A theatre workshop on the theme of the environment was also conducted,” said an official.Dr Jignesh Shah, president of Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA), said members of the AMA fraternity along with Ahmedabad Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society (AOGS) took part in a tree plantation drive. “We also distributed saplings to all members so they can plant them at their homes or near their offices and help make the city greener,” he said.Several city-based schools, colleges and universities organised special events around this year’s theme, ‘Inspired by Nature: For Climate. For Our Future’.
