AIU tasks VNSGU VC to draft concept note for higher education

Surat: The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), a century-old apex body representing more than 1,200 universities across the country, has entrusted Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) vice-chancellor Kishorsinh Chavda with preparing concept notes on key policy issues concerning higher education institutions in India. The assignment follows Chavda’s presentation of an agenda during the 100th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the AIU held in Pune on April 30.As part of the initiative, Chavda has been tasked with drafting concept papers on several important policy matters, including recognition of services rendered by contractual and ad hoc faculty members, performance-linked infrastructure support for universities, re-entry provisions under the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes (CCFUP), and broader consultations on internship and skill-based credit standards.Highlighting the changing demands of the global economy, Chavda said the period from 2026 to 2035 would be dominated by artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors and space technology.“We need to introduce courses aligned with these emerging sectors so that students do not merely earn degrees and remain unemployed. Our aim should be to equip them with skills that enable them to secure jobs with global companies such as Google and Tesla or become successful entrepreneurs by launching their own startups,” he said.
