Jaipur: AIIMS Delhi has completed its investigation into the deaths of women following C-section deliveries at Kota’s govt hospitals, with the toll rising to five, and its report is expected by Tuesday.A senior medical education department official said the govt was awaiting the findings, which would help determine the next course of action. The inquiry was ordered amid concerns over possible lapses in post-operative care, infection control and emergency response systems at New Medical College Hospital and JK Lon Hospital. The first death was reported on May 5, when 26-year-old Payal died after her condition deteriorated after a C-section. At least eight other postnatal women were also reported to have developed infections. The seven-member high-level committee, constituted by the Union Health ministry, reached Kota on Saturday. It included six specialists from AIIMS Delhi in surgery, microbiology, anaesthesia, paediatrics, hospital administration and gynaecology, along with one expert from AIIMS Jodhpur. The team inspected JK Lon Hospital, New Medical College Hospital and the Super Specialty Block, reviewing medical records, treatment protocols and hospital infrastructure. It also examined the records of two women who died in hospital, including nursing notes, diagnostic reports, patient history and treatment details. The Rajasthan govt has sent expert and specialist doctors from Jaipur to assist local teams treating critically ill women in intensive care, but has not yet identified the source of the infections.
