Jaipur: The planned expansion of Jaipur’s Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to more than 300 junctions is yet to take off, with the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) still examining a proposal submitted by the traffic police. The rollout was earlier expected to begin by end of Aug.DCP Traffic Yogesh Goyal said the traffic police had completed a study of around 352 locations and submitted a detailed report to JDA, specifying camera requirements at each junction based on traffic management, violations and crime-related needs.“JDA is currently examining the report and assessing the budget required for the project. Once the proposal is approved, a work order will be floated along with the camera specifications.” Goyal said. He added that he could not give a timeline for when the process would be completed. But when asked if it could start at month-end, he did not reply in the affirmative.Goyal said the traffic police does not have budgetary provisions for such infrastructure and depended on agencies including JDA and municipal corporation to implement its proposals. The delay comes after officials had indicated that the AI-based system would be expanded beyond the pilot at Rambagh Circle by end of Aug. During the June 3-July 11 pilot, Additional DCP (Traffic) Hariprasad Somani had said the system had reduced traffic clearance time at Rambagh Circle considerably. The proposed expansion is expected to combine adaptive signals, which adjust timings according to traffic volumes, with AI-enabled cameras for detecting violations and improving traffic management. Officials had also said the next phase would allow multiple junctions to be managed as corridors and provide priority to ambulances and VIP convoys.TOI tried to contact JDA Secretary Gaurav Saini for an update on the proposal and work order status but he was not available for comment.
