Ahmedabad: Renovation of rath yatra route completed by 75%

Ahmedabad: In preparation for the upcoming Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched an extensive project to modernize the traditional procession route. The initiative focuses on the stretch from Jamalpur Crossroads to Danapith, with the civic body allocating Rs 19.59 crore for the upgrades. Approximately 75% of the renovation is already complete, and officials aim to finish all work before the festival begins.According to a statement from the AMC publicity department, the project is designed to handle the millions of devotees who gather annually at the Jamalpur temple. “The development plan encompasses Jamalpur Crossroads, the Jagannath Temple, Jamalpur Gate, Vaishya Sabha, and the route through Khamasa to the Danapith Municipal Office,” it stated.Key features of the renovation include the installation of granite and Kota stone pavements, central medians with green patches, and modern street lighting. An artistic plaza with specialized lighting is being developed between the temple’s main entrance and Gate No 2. “Additionally, an artistic plaza with special lighting and modern paving is being developed from the temple entrance to Gate No. 2 and throughout the plaza area. Major junctions like Jamalpur Gate, Jamalpur Chakla, Vaishya Sabha, Shah Ali Gamdhani Dargah and Khamasa Crossroads are being redesigned, incorporating features like tabletops, islands, sculptures, placemaking, central verge and hanging lights to make the route more organised and attractive. This project by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will prove crucial in providing devotees with a safer, more convenient and well-organised experience during the rath yatra”, it stated.
