Ahmedabad: A police sub-inspector posted at Hanspura police chowki has lodged a complaint against two advocates and their client, alleging that they threatened police personnel and obstructed official duties while trying to secure the client’s release during preventive proceedings at Naroda police station.According to the complaint filed by PSI K S Kumpawat on Thursday, the incident stemmed from a property dispute complaint lodged by a woman against her brother-in-law. The woman alleged that the man frequently whistled at her and made inappropriate gestures, and submitted CCTV footage to support her claims.Police recorded her statement on Oct 13 and summoned the accused to Hanspura police chowki the following day to record his version. While a constable was taking his statement, two advocates allegedly arrived and questioned the police about the grounds on which their client had been called.Kumpawat informed them that the man had been summoned in connection with the woman’s complaint and that preventive action under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was being initiated to prevent a breach of peace. The advocates allegedly insisted that their client be released after his statement was recorded and threatened police personnel with consequences if action was taken against him. One of them also allegedly recorded a video at the chowki.Police nevertheless proceeded with preventive action and placed the man in the lock-up at Naroda police station. The advocates later reached the police station, claiming that their client required medical attention, and called an ambulance. However, paramedics reportedly found no medical emergency. Police subsequently arranged for his examination at Civil Hospital.During the transfer, the man allegedly abused and threatened police personnel. His son and the two advocates allegedly entered the police vehicle and obstructed the procedure. In his complaint, Kumpawat alleged that the actions of the advocates and their client interfered with the discharge of official police duties.
