The Narol police have arrested three members of an inter-state Mewati gang allegedly involved in cheating ATM users by swapping their debit cards and later withdrawing money from their bank accounts.

Ahmedabad: Narol police arrested three members of an inter-state Mewati gang for allegedly cheating ATM users by swapping their debit cards and later withdrawing money from their bank accounts. The arrests helped crack nine cases registered in Gujarat and Haryana.The accused were identified as Yograj Jatav (35), Ashif Mew (31) and Wajid Sheikh (35). Police said the gang targeted ATM users by offering assistance during transactions, gaining their trust, and then getting their PINs and then discreetly exchanging their ATM cards.The detected cases include those registered at Narol, Maninagar, Vejalpur, Isanpur, Sabarmati and Gaekwad Haveli police stations in Ahmedabad, besides Chikhli police station in Navsari and Kheripul police station in Faridabad in Haryana.Police seized 142 ATM cards, Rs 3.5 lakh in cash, and a POS machine, among other items, from the accused. Investigators said some of the accused have prior criminal records, with cases registered against them in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Further investigation is underway to identify other gang members and uncover their possible role in additional ATM fraud cases.
