Ahmedabad: Thieves wearing helmets smashed the window and stole Rs 50 lakh from a parked car in Krishnanagar moments after its owner stepped out following an alleged collision with a biker on Saturday. The victim had collected the cash from an angadia firm shortly before the theft occurred.Police suspect the accident was a planned distraction to create an opportunity for the theft.The 43-year-old businessman from Nikol had gone to Bapunagar with his nephew to collect Rs 50 lakh sent by a relative from Mumbai through an angadia firm. The cash, packed in a red-and-blue cloth bag, was placed on the rear seat of their car as they set out for their medical wholesale business.The robbery took place around 11.30am near Vijay Park in Krishnanagar. A motorcyclist allegedly rammed into the car from the rear then confronted the businessman, blaming the latter for the accident and seeking compensation. The businessman and his nephew stepped out of the vehicle and got embroiled in an argument with the biker.While the confrontation was underway, two helmeted men allegedly arrived there on another motorcycle, smashed the left rear window of the parked car, grabbed the money bag, and sped away.Krishnanagar inspector V H Joshi said the entire operation was carried out within minutes, leaving the victims with little time to react.The businessman later went through police photographs and identified the man who allegedly stopped his vehicle and facilitated the robbery.Police said a political scarf and material bearing the name of a religious institution were found inside the car. Investigators are examining whether the articles have any connection with the crime.Assistant commissioner of police Krunal Desai said CCTV footage from nearby establishments and roads is being analysed.
