Ahmedabad: Burglars target constable’s house, steal jewellery worth ₹8.2L

Ahmedabad: Burglars targeted the Saraspur residence of a police constable and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 8.2 lakh after opening a locker without causing visible damage.The complainant, Binal Thakor, is a constable posted at Vasna police station. According to the FIR, she lives with her in-laws at Bai Saraswati Chawl in Saraspur. Her husband Rahul Thakor works as a clerk at the office of the assistant director of boilers at Gandhidham, Kutch, while her brother-in-law, Arun Thakor, is undergoing training at Karai Police Academy.Binalben told police that she had kept the jewellery gifted by her parents and in-laws in a locker inside a cupboard. She had last checked the valuables on July 17.On Aug 3, around 10.30am, she opened the cupboard and noticed that the locker’s contents were not in order. She found several ornaments missing, though some jewellery was still inside. She immediately informed her husband and in-laws, who returned home and verified the loss.According to the FIR, the stolen property includes a gold jewellery set, a gold chain, a mangalsutra, two pairs of gold earrings, a gold pendant, two silver waist ornaments and a pair of silver anklets. The total value of the stolen jewellery has been estimated at Rs 8.2 lakh.Police suspect the theft was carried out between July 17 and Aug 3. An unidentified person is believed to have gained access to the house, opened the locker, and fled with the jewellery. Shaherkotda police have registered a case and are checking CCTV footage from nearby areas.
