Aherwan culpable homicide case: 5 convicted, sentenced to 6 years in jail

Hisar: The district and sessions court in Fatehabad has convicted five men in the 2021 Aherwan village culpable homicide case and sentenced each to six years’ rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 13,000.The judgement was delivered by the court of district and sessions judge Deepak Aggarwal on a complaint filed by Prabhjit Kaur, wife of the deceased Jaswant Singh.According to the prosecution, the incident stemmed from an altercation during a drinking session on March 31, 2021. Later that night, around 10 pm, the accused allegedly arrived at Jaswant Singh’s residence in a car, forced their way inside after knocking on the door, and attacked him.Gurjinder Singh alias Gary allegedly stabbed Jaswant Singh in the abdomen, while the remaining accused assaulted him.Hearing the commotion, Jaswant Singh’s wife Prabhjit Kaur and his brother rushed to the spot, but the assailants had fled. Jaswant Singh was admitted to a hospital in Hisar, where he succumbed to his injuries on April 2, 2021.The five convicts have been identified as Gurjinder Singh alias Gurvinder alias Gary, Ranjit Singh, Harpal Singh, Gora alias Richhpal and Navjot Singh, all residents of Aherwan village.Police had initially arrested only Gurjinder Singh and exonerated the other four during the investigation. However, after examining the evidence during trial, the court directed to summon the four additional accused.Relying on eyewitness accounts, forensic reports, medico-legal records and other prosecution evidence, the court held all five guilty of culpable homicide and related offences.
