Noida: With demand for milk-based sweets expected to rise ahead of Raksha Bandhan, food safety teams in GB Nagar and Ghaziabad stepped up inspections of milk products and sweets on Tuesday, targeting units suspected of preparing or supplying adulterated food items.Officials said the inspections would continue through the festive season and warned manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers against compromising food quality or hygiene to meet the surge in demand.In GB Nagar, Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has carried out inspections at multiple locations over the last two days. According to officials, the teams collected seven food samples, including paneer, ghevar, khoya and rasgulla, and sent them for testing.“A sample of rasgullas was collected at a Sarfabad unit, and around 100 kg of rasgullas were destroyed after officials found the stock contaminated and exposed to flies and mosquitoes,” an official said. Further action will be taken based on the laboratory reports and other findings, said officials.In Ghaziabad, the food safety department team raided a warehouse in Biharipura where they seized nearly 1,000 kg of rasgullas and destroyed the stock. Four samples were collected from the warehouse and sent to a laboratory.Officials said that the sweets were being prepared using adulterated paneer, sugar and chemicals, including a substance identified by the department as sefolite.The department has also started proceedings to revoke the licence of the warehouse operator.
