Guwahati: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora on Wednesday called for renewed efforts to take regionalism to the younger generation, saying the party’s progress must go beyond organisational expansion to rebuilding public trust, protecting Assam’s collective interests and accelerating the state’s development.Addressing supporters at Kachari Maidan in Dhemaji during the party’s 42nd foundation day celebrations, Bora said AGP’s commitment to regionalism was rooted in safeguarding Assam’s interests and ensuring its overall progress.“Our resolve is ‘AGP’s progress, Assam’s development’. We must move forward unitedly, taking the younger generation along, towards building a self-reliant, progressive and prosperous Assam,” he said.Bora said strengthening the party organisation alone would not define its progress. Building people’s confidence, upholding the state’s collective interests and making a meaningful contribution to Assam’s development were equally important, he said. The foundation day celebration was held centrally in Dhemaji and simultaneously observed across districts and assembly constituencies. The event began with the hoisting of 42 party flags, followed by tributes to martyrs and a remembrance programme for departed party colleagues.AGP working president Keshab Mahanta described the party as a steadfast force for regionalism and the protection of indigenous people. “AGP stands for the protection of indigenous people. AGP is an unwavering banyan tree of regionalism. The party has been moving forward with a vision of progressive regionalism,” he said.Mahanta said the party, which is a part of NDA, would continue its journey with renewed energy and sought public support to preserve and strengthen regionalism in Assam.Senior leaders and party workers, including Assam ministers Ranoj Pegu and Jayanta Mallabaruah, MP Pradan Baruah, MLA Jibon Gogoi, AGP MPs Birendra Prasad Baishya and Phani Bhushan Choudhury, attended the event.
