NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has ordered the immediate sealing of all illegal constructions with more than four floors and warned of strict action against officials found responsible for allowing such structures, following the deadly building collapse near Satya Niketan in southwest Delhi.The decision came after a building collapsed in the student-dominated area on Sunday, killing five people.“The culprits of the Satya Niketan building incident in Delhi will not be spared under any circumstances. All illegal constructions with more than four floors will be immediately sealed, and strict action will be taken against the guilty officials, leading to their immediate dismissal. These orders will be implemented with immediate effect,” Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi said in a post on X.The MCD said buildings falling under the specified criteria would be sealed without delay, while officials found responsible for permitting illegal constructions would face stringent action.According to police, the Delhi Fire Department received an alert about the collapse at around 1:30pm, following which emergency personnel and rescue teams were rushed to the spot to conduct search and rescue operations.The death toll in the Satya Niketan building collapse has risen to five, while 10 people have been rescued so far, police said. Delhi Police have also registered an FIR against the alleged owner, Hariram, and others in connection with the incident.Meanwhile, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members staged a protest outside the MCD headquarters at Civic Centre, raising concerns over student safety.

The protesters accused the civic body of negligence and alleged lapses in safety compliance at paying guest accommodations in student-dominated areas. ABVP activists entered the MCD premises and staged a dharna, demanding immediate administrative action to ensure the safety of students living in PG accommodations.(With ANI inputs)
