NOIDA: Private university workers staged a protest on Wednesday in Greater Noida’s Dadri, demanding higher wages, even as police said the situation remained peaceful and was brought under control after discussions with the demonstrators.The workers gathered outside the main gate of Shiv Nadar University and sat on the road, raising slogans in support of their demands. They sought a salary hike and an increase in overtime payments, among other issues.According to police, the protesters were aware of the state government’s provisions related to wage revisions. Around 10.45 am, the protest had ended. “The situation remained peaceful and normalcy was restored after discussions with the workers. There is no ongoing protest at the site,” a police official said.Amid the developments, Gautam Buddha Nagar Police stepped up vigil across the commissionerate and carried out foot patrols in several sensitive areas to maintain law and order. Additional Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Rajiv Narayan Mishra, along with senior officers and personnel, conducted flag marches to review security arrangements and ensure preparedness.Officials instructed field units to take strict action against any attempt to disturb peace and to keep PCR and PRV vehicles on continuous patrol. Police said the exercise helped reassure the public and sent a strong message against violence and rumour-mongering.In the Phase-1 police station area, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Manisha Singh also conducted foot patrols along with local teams and Delhi Police personnel to assess the situation. She urged residents to cooperate with authorities and not pay attention to rumours, warning that strict action would be taken against anyone trying to disrupt law and order.The heightened security measures come a day after the situation in Noida remained largely peaceful but tense on Tuesday, when a minor protest was held outside a high-rise residential society where domestic workers went on strike seeking a pay hike and four days of leave each month.Earlier on Monday, large-scale protests by factory workers demanding higher wages turned violent, leading to arson and vandalism in parts of the city. Police said over 300 people were arrested and seven FIRs were registered in connection with those incidents.
