Adhikari meets Union mins to fine-tune preps for PM’s Yoga Day visit to state

Kolkata: CM Suvendu Adhikari held a meeting at Nabanna on Tuesday ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21, which will be attended by PM Narendra Modi. It was attended by Union ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Prataprao Jadhav.The PM, arriving on June 20 for a two-day visit, is likely to lead a massive Yoga Day celebration on Red Road the following day. The state govt aims to turn the event into a mass movement, targeting a Guinness World Record for maximum participation.A special registration drive will begin on June 14, allowing citizens to participate by giving a missed call to a toll-free number. Special programmes will also be organised at several heritage and tourist spots on June 15. The state govt has also planned a large-scale yoga camp along the Hooghly ghats to ensure public participation.Tuesday’s meeting addressed security protocols, smooth transit, traffic control, emergency services, and crowd management, alongside a PR campaign to engage youth and students.School programmes are already underway from June 7 to 21. District-level initiatives like ‘Yoga in Schools’, ‘Yoga for Mental Health’, ‘Yoga for Tribal Bengal’ and special camps for seniors and tea workers have been rolled out. A ‘Run for Yoga’ will be held in every district on June 19.This is the first time West Bengal is hosting the national event. The theme is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”.
