Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has secured court approval to close two FIRs against police personnel in the past week, taking the number of corruption cases against govt officials closed by the bureau since 2023 to about 22.In the first case, on Oct 9, the ACB special court in Nampally accepted the final report filed by ACB’s Ranga Reddy Range unit seeking closure of a 2019 disproportionate assets case against an SP-rank police officer working in the city commissionerate.According to the ACB report, the investigation had found the officer in possession of assets worth over ₹3.25 crore against known income of over ₹1.86 crore, amounting to disproportionate assets of 174.4%. The bureau submitted its final report in the case to the govt on Nov 23, 2023, recommending prosecution. However, the govt declined sanction for prosecution through GO Rt No. 316, dated April 20, 2026, stating that the evidence did not meet the standard required to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt. The order added that “it would be adequate to make him accountable through departmental proceedings for committing procedural lapses”. It cited “risky service rendered by the accused officer in the field of terrorism/counter Intelligence” and directed departmental action for alleged non-submission of annual property returns and for acquiring and disposing of assets without permission. Citing the govt order, ACB filed a report in court seeking closure of the FIR, and the same was accepted by the ACB court on Oct 9.A day earlier, on Oct 8, the special court had accepted the closure report filed by the ACB’s city range-2 in a 2023 bribery case involving three officials — an inspector, a home guard and a sub-inspector, who were posted at a police station in Hyderabad. The three were accused of demanding a bribe from the owner of a pub.As per court records, the special public prosecutor told the court that after the investigation, ACB requested govt to initiate departmental action against the inspector and the SI “for their gross violation of Telangana Civil Services (conduct) Rules, instead of prosecution”. For the home guard, “suitable action may be initiated by the competent authority instead of prosecution as he is a home guard and no conduct rules are applicable to him”.After examining the matter, the govt through GO 655, dated July 15, 2025, had decided on departmental action against the inspector and the sub-inspector. It also noted that the Hyderabad police commissioner had, by a memo dated Oct 10, 2023, instructed the commandant of home guards to take “necessary action for removal” of the home guard. The court has accepted the final report from ACB for closure of the FIR against the two police officials and the home guard.
