Mumbai: An air-conditioning fitting technician died after falling from the 11th floor of a 29-storeyed residential building in Bandra’s Kalanagar on Saturday, police said.The incident occurred at Ten BKC at about 12.30pm when Ziyadul Shamshujuha Huda (27), was fitting an outdoor AC unit from outside a window. Kherwadi police detained supervisor Indrajit Chauhan (30) and AC contractor Tashvar Ali Ibbarat Ali Mansuri (28) for allegedly causing death by negligence after a probe indicated that they did not follow proper safety measures, leading to Huda’s death. V Narayan“Chauhan and Mansuri were detained on learning of their negligence for not following the safety measures. Though they claimed that they had provided a harness, it is yet unclear whether the deceased had fastened it properly and whether the duo had checked the process before being assigned the job. The deceased, though, had used a safety belt for work, but he was not wearing a helmet on his head,” said a police officer of the Kherwadi police station.A pedestrian who witnessed the fall informed a patrolling police vehicle at 1.45 pm as it was passing towards the Mhada office opposite Gurunanak Hospital, police said.“The pedestrian signalled our vehicle to stop. He informed us that a person had fallen from the Ten BKC building. We immediately proceeded to the said location with the staff from Mobile 1 vehicle and noticed that a person was lying on the ground and profusely bleeding. We inquired with Atikur Rehman Mohammad Sagir Mansuri (21), present at the spot, and learnt that the deceased was an AC fitter who fell while working on the eleventh floor. Mansuri stated that he was assisting the injured person in his work when he lost balance and had a fall,” said Kherwadi police constable Mangesh Chavari in the FIR.Police said Chauhan and the contractor were questioned and said they did not have information on whether the safety belt was used properly by the deceased. “The deceased, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, suffered multiple injuries on his face, jaw, and elbow and internal injuries and succumbed before admission at the Sion Hospital,” said a police officer.
