ABVP demands revival of student union elections in Rajasthan

Jaipur: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Friday staged a protest at Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University, demanding the restoration of student union elections in Rajasthan, which have remained suspended for the past three years.ABVP members and students gathered on the campus and held a peaceful sit-in outside the vice-chancellor’s office, alleging that the continued suspension of elections had deprived students of democratic representation. They later submitted a memorandum addressed to deputy chief minister and higher education minister Prem Chand Bairwa through the vice-chancellor.The student body said the prolonged suspension of student union elections in Rajasthan amounted to a violation of students’ democratic rights and should be revoked without delay.Besides restoring elections, ABVP demanded the implementation of a uniform academic calendar across state universities to ensure timely admissions, examinations and declaration of results. It also sought regular recruitment to vacant teaching and non-teaching posts, appointment of permanent professors in govt colleges, and the establishment of independent Rajasthani language depts in all state universities with regular faculty appointments.
