Ahmedabad: The city crime branch on Thursday arrested a 31-year-old man who had been absconding for nearly two years in connection with a murder case registered at Vatva police station here.The accused, identified as Jayrajsinh Chauhan, was wanted in an offence registered in 2024 under sections related to murder, robbery, assault and criminal intimidation. Police said he had been evading arrest since the case was filed, despite multiple efforts to trace him.According to officials, Chauhan has a long criminal history, with involvement in over 20 offences across various police stations. His record includes cases of assault, attempt to murder and prohibition-related violations. He was previously arrested in a murder case and had served jail time before being released on bail.Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch tracked Chauhan to the Nikol-Kathwada Road area, where he was detained from a public place. He was subsequently handed over to the Vatva police.Police sources added that Chauhan had also been detained under preventive detention laws in the past and lodged in jails in different cities.Officials said that with his arrest, further investigation into the Vatva case will continue, including verification of his role and possible links with other accused persons involved in the offence.
