Dibrugarh: All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu) secured 11 of the 18 posts in the Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students’ Union (DUPGSU) election for the 2026-27 academic session, results announced on Friday showed. NSUI won four posts, while Asom Chatra Parishad (ACP) secured three.Aasu-backed Partha Pratim Gohain was elected general secretary, while NSUI-backed Dewanga Borthakur won the president’s post. Abhishek Dutta of the ACP, the student wing of the Asom Gana Parishad, was elected assistant general secretary.Other Aasu-backed winners were Anal Jyoti Lahkar, vice-president; Dipak Mandal, magazine editor; Kristina Gogoi, fine arts and literary secretary; Jyotishmita Dowarah, common room secretary (girls); Bedobrat Saikia, common room secretary (boys); Diya Gogoi, social service secretary; and Biki Chetia, general sports secretary.Three Aasu-backed candidates were elected uncontested: Abhishree Parashar as music secretary, Karanraj Karmakar as debating and symposium secretary, and Sarat Kutum as cricket secretary.“I sincerely thank the postgraduate students of Dibrugarh University for reposing their faith in me. This victory is a great responsibility and I will work collectively with the newly elected members to raise students’ issues and strengthen the academic and campus environment of the university,” Gohain said.
