Dibrugarh: Protesters blocked Lakwa-Rajgarh road in Sivasagar for two hours on Monday, demanding repairs.Aasu and ATTSA members, along with residents and students, staged the blockade at Lakwa, halting traffic. They alleged that repeated appeals failed to prompt action on the badly deteriorated road.Recent rains worsened its condition, leaving potholes, uneven surfaces and muddy stretches. Protesters said the damage was affecting commuters, emergency vehicles and the transport of essential goods. Residents alleged that heavy vehicles and ONGC tankers regularly plying along the route aggravated the problem.“The condition of the Lakwa-Rajgarh road has become unbearable. Students and ordinary commuters are forced to travel through potholes and damaged stretches every day. Despite repeated demands, the authorities have failed to take concrete action. The poor condition of the road has also affected the movement of emergency vehicles and transportation of essential goods,” Aasu leader Pranjal Gogoi said.ATTSA members said students and residents of tea garden and rural areas faced particular difficulties.“The Lakwa-Rajgarh road is a vital communication link for people living in the surrounding areas. A large number of students and residents use the road every day. During the rains, travelling on this stretch becomes extremely difficult and dangerous. The road needs proper and permanent repair instead of temporary measures,” an ATTSA representative said.The protesters urged the public works department and other authorities to inspect the road and begin repair work without delay.
