Defamation complaint against Swati Maliwal: AAP MLA appears in court

Bathinda: The Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Moga, Amandeep Kaur Arora, on Tuesday appeared in the court of judicial magistrate first class at Moga in connection with a criminal defamation complaint filed against Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal. The complaint was filed on May 13. The MLA, through her counsel, prayed for issuing a pre-summoning notice to Swati Maliwal in the complaint filed over a social media post made by her, allegedly describing AAP MLAs in Punjab as ‘bhed, bakrian’ (sheep and goats). The court, after hearing Amandeep’s counsel, adjourned the matter to May 25 for consideration.Maliwal, who was earlier associated with the AAP, has been a vocal critic of the Aam Aadmi Party, mainly party convener Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.Amandeep Arora said, “Swati Maliwal referred to AAP MLAs in Punjab as ‘sheep and goats’. I filed a criminal defamation complaint against her on May 13, which the court took up today (May 19). I appeared before the court and requested action against Swati Maliwal.“She had been insulting the MLAs. The level of politics has sunk very low as such remarks force educated people to stay away from politics. Referring to the elected representatives, who are in politics to serve the people, is intolerable,” she said.MSID:: 131205246 413 |
