Chennai: A 54-year-old woman, Mathura, of Pulianthope, died of injuries on Sunday a week after she was knocked down by a minor riding a motorcycle. Police arrested the 17-year-old’s father, Amirjan, 42, on charges of allowing the boy to ride the bike.The Pulianthope traffic investigation wing altered the case to causing death by rash and negligent driving.On June 28, Madhura was riding her bicycle near a private school on Pulianthope Main Road when a motorcycle hit her. She sustained severe head injuries in the fall and was admitted to Government Stanley Hospital.Police filed a case against Amirjan under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, for allowing a minor to drive. The act says the guardian or vehicle owner can face up to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of ₹25,000. Amirjan was remanded in judicial custody.
