Gurgaon: Residents of Rajendra Park, Surat Nagar and adjoining localities have renewed their demand for crossing the Delhi-Gurgaon railway line safely, citing the hardship faced by lakhs of people.Raising the issue with Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Gurgaon MLA Mukesh Sharma said nearly five lakh residents of Rajendra Park and surrounding areas find it difficult to access the cremation ground in Bhimgarh Kheri village, as it is located across the railway line.According to Sharma, residents earlier used to cross a single railway track to reach the cremation ground. However, with the electrification of the railway route and increased train movement, crossing the tracks has become hazardous. There is no level crossing either. As a result, families are forced to take a detour of 10-15 km during funeral processions.Sharma urged the railways to construct a railway underpass or a foot overbridge connecting Rajendra Park with the cremation ground. “The absence of a direct crossing causes immense hardship, particularly during emergencies,” Sharma said.Residents claimed that several people have lost their lives while attempting to cross the tracks over the years. “Proper infrastructure for crossing the railway line will make life easier and safer for residents,” said Pranav Kumar, a resident of Rajendra Park.Meanwhile, residents of Surat Nagar and Rajendra Park have sought the construction of an underpass beneath the Daulatabad overbridge, a key link between Old Gurgaon and Dwarka Expressway that witnesses heavy traffic and serves as the main access route for the area.Sharma said Surat Nagar alone has a population of nearly two lakh and that congestion and limited connectivity make life difficult for pedestrians and vehicle users. “An underpass beneath the Daulatabad overbridge would make movement safer for pedestrians and small vehicles while easing congestion,” he said.
